Disclaimer
Sugarfoot Stomp is an Incorporated Society with Not-For-Profit Charitable Status. Our operations are carried out by a passionate group of volunteers who are both members and non-members of Sugarfoot Stomp.
Sugarfoot Stomp promotes the education of Swing Dancing as set out in our constitution.
Sugarfoot Stomp has a Code of Conduct to uphold our safe scenes commitment. This code of conduct applies to all associates (members and non-members) of Sugarfoot Stomp.
When applicable: Sugarfoot Stomp’s COVID-19 Induction Information applies to ALL associates (members and non-members) of Sugarfoot Stomp. Take the time to read Sugarfoot Stomp’s COVID-19 Induction Information here.
Class / workshop / event facilitators
Our facilitators are passionate about sharing their knowledge and understanding about Swing dance, of which they love, and are deeply invested in growing the dance. Due to the community focus of our Incorporated Society, not all of our facilitators have formal education training.
Sugarfoot Stomp provides an opportunity for these talented dancers to share their passion for Swing dance in order to educate the community for our charitable purpose. We expect all attendees to be supportive towards all facilitators.
Personal Risk + Injury
All attendees and facilitators in classes, workshops and events participate at their own risk. Participants agree to personally identify the potential hazards and respond appropriately to those hazards. Participants are solely responsible for their own well-being while undertaking classes, workshops and events and will only participate in classes, workshops and events at a level they are personally comfortable with.
Sugarfoot Stomp or any person in membership positions (including facilitators) are not held responsible for any damage to property, or injury sustained in classes, workshops and/or events. Participants will follow all of the policies and procedures at venues hired by Sugarfoot Stomp.
Due to the physical contact of Swing Dancing, participants are encouraged to inform facilitators of any injuries they have.
Class Levels
Swing Dance has different structures, moves and variations. Sugarfoot Stomp acknowledges Swing Dancing is a complex dance form to learn. It is widely understood in the Swing Dance community that all dancers are working on their personal dance goals.
Participants are required to show an awareness of their own abilities and participate in the class / workshop appropriately according to their experience level. Participants accept they are here to learn and expand their education about Swing Dance and Jazz music.
Drop Ins
Drop-Ins to classes understand that class blocks are built on sequential dance lessons. This means some content might be unfamiliar to participants who choose to drop in at random classes throughout the block. It is understood by the Drop-In participants that the facilitator might not reteach material covered in previous classes.
Therefore, Sugarfoot Stomp strongly recommends a commitment to most classes in a class block or workshop series.
Venue Hire
Sugarfoot Stomp is not affiliated with any Studios or Halls. We hire the facilities and organise the classes, workshops, or events to happen at a variety of places.

Classes / Workshops
Class content and pace will be at the discretion of the facilitators.
We encourage questions to be asked in class and facilitators will do their best to provide an answer. However, due to the complex nature of Swing dancing, the questions might not be able to be answered in the allocated class or workshop time. The facilitators will do their best to research and might choose to revisit questions at a later date. This is at the discretion of the facilitators.
To support learning, class recaps might be filmed and posted by the facilitators during the class blocks for participant use only.
Filming of workshop content is at the discretion of the facilitators.
As a courtesy, please email classes@sugarfootstomp.co.nz or contact the facilitators directly if you are going to be absent from classes.
Classes will be advertised as beginner, intermediate, advanced or open.
Arrive 15 minutes before the class starts. This enables time to complete check-in, change shoes and have a catch up chat. Classes/workshops will start promptly.
Registration for Classes / Workshops
Registration for classes / workshops is through the Sugarfoot Stomp Website with a Google Form link.
Our registrations for regular classes run in blocks of 6 weeks.
Numbers for registration with financial viability will determine the running of the class / workshop.
Drop in participants will provide their name and a contactable email address to facilitators.
After the closing date for registrations, participants shall contact classes@sugarfootstomp.co.nz for registration details.
Payment for Classes & Workshops
Class / Workshop payments are made to Sugarfoot Stomp before classes / workshops start.
No refund for a block of classes after the first class unless the whole block is cancelled by Sugarfoot Stomp. Sugarfoot Stomp can put classes or blocks on hold and postpone them to a later date or venue.
Classes are not transferable between blocks, for example, if you miss class 6 from block 2 you are not able to transfer that over to class 1 block 3 . Our blocks run as a complete set of 6 lessons and are separate from other blocks (even if they run back to back weeks). This is because facilitators are paid out on a profit share model per 6 week block / or workshop.
Payments are made through direct bank transfer into the Sugarfoot Stomp Bank account or to be paid in cash before the first class starts.
If a bank transfer is made at the time the class starts, then the facilitator must sight the transfer on the participant’s device as payment confirmation.
Drop Ins can pay by cash or bank transfer before the class starts.
